ABOUT
Robin Smith, PLA, ASLA
I am a 5th generation Oregonian and grew up in Scappoose, a small town just north of Portland, between the lower foothills of the Northern Oregon Coast Range and the Columbia River. ‘Scappoose’ is of Native American origin, derived from the Chinook Tribe village of Skáppus, meaning ‘gravelly plains’.
As a child, I was surrounded by nature - from mountains and forests to open prairie, wetlands, creeks and rivers - which nurtured a very early appreciation and love of the natural landscape, geology, horticulture, architecture and art.
I received my Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) degree in 1999 from the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts.
My emphasis is in custom mid- to high-end residential landscape architecture, a natural balance of symmetry and assymetry, vernacular architecture, xeriscaping and use of native and/or hardy plant materials. I focus on fine landscape detailing, beautiful plant combinations and a clever, articulated and highly functional approach to design. I aim to provide a beautiful, enriching and intimate landscape experience for all of my clients.
I am a licensed Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) in the State of Oregon (OR #LA1097) and Smith Landscape Architect LLC is registered to provide landscape architecture services in the State of Oregon (OR #L569). I am also a Full Member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), a Full Member of the ASLA Oregon Chapter and a Member of the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon (HPSO).
For over 25 years, I have designed and collaboratively managed an extensive list of projects in the United States and abroad in Ireland - from private residential gardens to commercial and mixed-use developments, rooftop gardens, waterfronts, parks, resorts and nature playgrounds.
